Dispersion is a Christian strategy board game about the Great Commission of Jesus Christ — Matthew 28:16-20 — and the missionary journeys of the 12 Apostles as they carried the Gospel from Jerusalem to the seven regions of the first-century world.

Ages:  14 and up    ·    Players:  2 to 4    ·    Playing time:  60–90 minutes    ·    Designer:  Paul Carmedelle

A resource-management strategy game in the tradition of Catan  — but built around Blessings, Missions, and Hardships rather than wood and wheat. The board reproduces Strabo's first-century world map overlaid with the ancient Christian Ichthus symbol. Original artwork depicts the 12 Apostles along the Sea of Galilee. More than 150 Bible references, Christian symbols, and figures from Acts of the Apostles are woven into the cards. Designed for teens, college students, men's and women's groups, youth ministry leaders, and Christian families looking for a game with genuine strategic depth.

Open to all Christians. The game draws on Catholic and Protestant traditions equally and is regularly used in Bible studies, Christian youth groups, and Confirmation classes.

  • Euro Strategy Game Rooted in the New Testament — Play as one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ, fulfilling the Great Commission by spreading His message across the ancient world. Establish House Churches and City Churches, complete Missions, and navigate Hardships in a mid-weight strategy game that rewards both tactical and casual players.

  • Deep Strategy with Endless Replayability — Gather resources, leverage the unique powers of Apostles and Disciples, and pursue multiple paths to victory. Variable game elements ensure no two games play the same, making every session a new strategic challenge.

  • Richly Rooted in Scripture — Experience the powers, hardships, and messages of Peter, Paul, John, and all 12 Apostles as recorded in the New Testament. Apostle powers include Preach, Baptize, Heal the Sick, Cast Out Demons, and Raise the Dead — bringing Biblical history to life around the game table.

  • Fast Paced and Dramatic — Player turns are quick and rewarding, with dynamic gameplay that makes it possible to surge from last to first in a single turn, keeping every player engaged until the final moment.

  • 150+ Christian Symbols, Catacomb Art and Biblical Characters — Features an extraordinary visual world of early Christian iconography, New Testament figures, and catacomb art that immerses players in the world of the early church.

  • Stunning Original Artwork — Features original oil paintings of the 12 Apostles by noted artist Laura Wiseman, depicted standing on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in the order they were called by Jesus Christ.

  • The Perfect Christian Gift — Ideal for Christmas, Confirmation, birthdays, and game nights. A wholesome, faith-enriching experience for families, homeschools, youth groups, Sunday school, and anyone passionate about Biblical history and the early church.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dispersion a good Confirmation or graduation gift?

Yes — Dispersion is one of the most popular Confirmation and high-school graduation gifts we ship, especially for teens who already enjoy strategy games. The age 14+ rating and 60–90 minute play time make it appropriate for confirmandi, college students, and young adults. The Great Commission framing — Christ sending his Apostles into the world — speaks directly to the moment a young Christian is being sent out themselves.

Is Dispersion for people of any Christian faith?

Yes! Dispersion is built around the New Testament — the Great Commission, the missionary journeys recorded in Acts, and the establishment of the early Church — and is enjoyed equally by any Christian household. The 12 Apostles, the Sea of Galilee, the Ichthus, and the seven regions of the ancient world are shared inheritance for all Christians.

How does Dispersion compare to mainstream strategy games like Catan?

Dispersion sits in the same family as Catan, Ticket to Ride, and other resource-management strategy games. You collect Blessing, Mission, and Hardship cards (the resource currency), play them to build House Churches and City Churches across the seven regions of the first-century world. Strategy depth and replay variability are explicitly designed in.

How long does a typical game take?

Sixty to ninety minutes for most groups. Like many Euro-strategy games, the first play takes longer as players learn the rules; subsequent games settle into the lower end of that range.

Is the game appropriate for a Christian youth group?

Very much so. Dispersion is a regular fixture in parish youth groups, campus Christian fellowships, and homeschool co-ops. It rewards strategic thinking and naturally generates conversation about the missions of Peter, Andrew, John, and the rest of the Twelve — and how the faith reached every region from Spain to India. The game pairs well with a Bible-study session before or after.

Where can I learn about the Bible references and symbols in the game?

Higher Calling Games' Learn page documents more than 150 Bible references, Christian symbols, and historical figures featured in Dispersion — including each of the 12 Apostles and the seven regions of evangelization. The Learn section is freely accessible and works equally well as a study companion or a teaching resource.

How is Dispersion different from Apparition?

Dispersion is a 60–90 minute strategy game for ages 14+ about the Apostles and the spread of Christianity through the first-century world. Apparition is a 25–30 minute card-matching family game for ages 8+ about the Marian apparitions. Dispersion suits teens, adults, and serious gamers; Apparition suits children, families, and mixed-age groups. Many households own both.
